The Basics
Sand candles, also called pearled wax candles, are made from loose wax that you pour into a heat-safe container and add a wick. Unlike regular jar candles, you are not locked into one container or size. You can control how much wax you use, how many wicks you add, and reuse the wax instead of throwing the container away.
It’s as easy as 1-2-3:
- Pour: Fill a heat-resistant vessel with your sand.
- Wick: Insert a wick, leaving about 1cm visible above the surface.
- Light: Enjoy your custom candle!
Yes! We use RSPO-certified palm (plant based) wax. Because you can refill any container you already own, Candella helps eliminate the waste of single-use candle jars.
Yes, wicks are included with every sand candle purchase. You’ll find the wicks inside the pouch, so you can start using your sand candles right away without buying anything extra. If you need more, extra wicks are also available for purchase here.
Customizing & Reusing
The burn time depends on how you use your wicks, but for a single-wick setup:
- Discovery Size (100g): Approximately 7.5+ hours of continuous burn time.
- Classic Size (350g): Offers an incredible 80+ hours of total burn time.

Yes. Our sand candles are designed to be self-extinguishing. If the container is accidentally knocked over, the granules will naturally smother the flame.
No. Our plant-based formula is designed for a clean, non-toxic, and soot-free burn, making it safe for your home and your walls.
Sand wax candles often burn longer because only the wax around the wick melts, not the entire surface at once. When used with the right number of wicks, they also burn cleaner with less smoke.
Performance & Safety
Absolutely. Once you extinguish the flame, let the "melt pool" harden. Simply lift out the hardened wax disc and toss it. The remaining sand is fresh and ready for a new wick!
Any heat-resistant vessel works perfectly—think glass vases, marble bowls, ceramic mugs, or even stone trays. Ensure the container is at least 3-4 inches wide so the wax doesn't melt onto the sides of your vessel.
While we offer beautifully scented options, our Original - Unscented is perfect for customization. You can add a few drops of high-quality essential oils or candle fragrance oils near the wick (away from the open flame) to create your own signature scent.
Start with one wick placed in the center of the candle. If you need more, add extra wicks with space between them. Using too many wicks at once or placing them too close together can create a flame that is too large. Always stay nearby during the first burn.
